Quaker Spring 2021
Monday, June 21 to Thursday, June 24, 2021
If you yearn for a more vibrant spiritual community,
If you hunger for more time for worship, reflection,
and deepening the connections among Friends,
come to Quaker Spring!
We invite all Friends hungry for spiritual community, of all ages, to spend time in worship, reflection, conversation, and play. We bring together Friends from all branches of Quakerism, to share what Spirit-led Quakerism is about at its core–and to experience it together.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic Quaker Spring held a “hybrid” gathering in 2021. Most Friends took part via Zoom. We were blessed with participation by many Friends who could not have taken part in person, including Friends from Kenya, England, Dominican Republic, and the western US. A small group of fully vaccinated Friends on the planning group participated onsite in Barnesville in order to experiment with a hybrid gathering approach. Over a hundred Friends took part over all.
Our virtual gathering this summer was held from Monday, June 21 through Thursday, June 24 with sessions of 3-4 hours each day & breaks.
Our gathering this summer opened on Monday, June 21 meeting for introductions, worship, and hearing what was on Friends’ hearts.
The schedule on Tuesday through Thursday included:
- Bible sessions
- Waiting Worship (introduced by a prepared message on one day)
- a break – where we heard from individual Friends about their ministries
- concluding with a meeting for discernment or other plenary session – often including time in small breakout groups.
Friends participated for whatever portion of the week they were able and felt led to attend.
- For more on the shape of our time at this gathering, see: “A Day at Quaker Spring.”
Please hold in prayer all those suffering and dying from the pandemic around the world, all those who are serving others, even at great risk to themselves, and the poor and marginalized who the least able to face the economic disruptions of this great crisis facing our nation and planet.
The virtual gathering was free but we are grateful for donations towards our work. This year donations mostly went to support the purchase of internet minutes to help Friends attend using cell phones in Africa.
We will be meeting in 2022 again as a hybrid gathering with some Friends participating as able at Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie New York and many Friends taking part via Zoom. The dates for the 2022 hybrid gathering will be Friday June 24th through Wednesday June 29th.
People hear about this gathering almost entirely by word of mouth. Please help us spread the word to other Friends who may be interested by downloading and distributing the 2022 Quaker Spring flyer that will be posted here later this year. (below is the 2021 flyer)
